Under very limited conditions, the National Organic Program (NOP) permits the use of synthetically produced pesticide active ingredients in organic agriculture (7 CFR §205.601). Examples of permitted synthetic substances are elemental sulfur, copper sulfate, and insecticidal soaps. Conn & Smith prepares petitions for review by the National Organic Program (NOP) and represents clients at public hearings before the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB). Also, for formulations containing permitted active ingredients, we prepare Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) applications and Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) applications to allow use of pesticide formulations in organic agriculture.
